An Interview with the Founder: Launching during COVID

Nov 13, 2020 | Become a Provider

An interview with Cindy Elwell, Founder of Divorce With Dignity (DWD)

Q: Who should consider opening an amicable divorce business?

A: For legal professionals looking for a niche where they can earn significant income and help their clients in a positive way, an amicable divorce business is a wonderful way to incorporate their values while offering them financial freedom.

Q: What does it take to start my own amicable divorce business?

A: If you were to start an amicable divorce business on your own, it would require a lot of start-up costs around developing your website and social media sites, creating your presence, branding, finding and securing systems, and so much more. But… by joining Divorce With Dignity, we take all of the guesswork out of starting your own business and provide proven systems, marketing collateral, a web page, social media profiles, and use of a developed and trusted brand. Beyond that, we offer comprehensive training and operating resources. The license is extremely affordable, payments are spread out over a very reasonable amount of time, and the cost is usually recouped within just a couple of months. And if you’re like our current providers, you’ll also increase your current income significantly. You won’t be out on a limb figuring everything out on your own. You’ll have your own coach who will work with you to keep all of your costs low and guide you through the process of opening your office. Where traditionally it takes about seven years to open your business and get it up to speed, DWD takes it down to just three years.

Further, all you need to get started is a laptop, a phone, an expertise in family law, and a willingness to learn. Your coach will guide you every step of the way.

Q: What kind of support and resources do you provide?

A: We provide our Providers comprehensive training, marketing collateral, a web page, social media pages, a phone number, email address, online scheduling tool, software, and so much more. They learn about all of the things we provide during their free consultation call.

Q: What are the benefits and challenges you’ve seen with starting a DWD business during COVID?

A: Starting your business during COVID is an opportunity to take advantage of the ability to work and service clients remotely. Most of our Providers are working with clients using Zoom, so they don’t even need to have an office; they can run their business completely from their home.

Further, with so much on hold right now, it is a perfect time to take advantage of the down time and work on getting your foundation in place and developing your referral partners. COVID has triggered a lot of divorces, so there are so many who could use your expertise, and no shortage of business.

Finally, because people are really reassessing their traditional jobs and not feeling a ton of job security right now, there’s an opportunity to transition into something they can feel really good about — knowing that they’re helping people through one of their most difficult transitions — in a peaceful, amicable way — while having the security of a solid, in-demand business, with a support team behind them.

Q: What about social distancing?

A: Since social distancing recommendations have been put into place, our Providers have been successfully utilizing Zoom for meetings and working from home. Some Providers have been seeing clients, at their request, but they are able to follow the CDC recommendations.

Q: Shouldn’t people just wait until this is over?

A: There are no guarantees as to when this “alternate reality” will end, so why wait when they can start a flourishing and rewarding career now? Those with the expertise it takes in this business can become a part of the movement and grow with the nation through COVID, while establishing their business. Divorces aren’t going anywhere (quite the opposite, in fact).

Q: Aren’t the courts all closed right now?

A: Some courts are closed, but most are not. They’re processing more documents virtually than ever before. We can still get all of our work done now, so there are really no hold-ups.

Q: Are people even considering divorce, with everything else that’s going on?

A: People have been cooped up for a long time and they’re coming out of their isolation (or concerned they’ll have to go back into it – depending where they are) and trying to figure out how they can part amicably. Some have chosen to remain living together while others are finding alternative living arrangements. Divorce is definitely on the rise, and it seems very closely linked to the changes and added challenges and stress that have come with COVID.

Q: How does someone learn more and get started?

A: You can schedule your complimentary consultation and we’ll walk you through the process. During a complimentary 15-min call, we’ll answer your questions and talk over the high points. There’s absolutely no obligation and no pressure.
